Introduction to the Book

Making the Progressive Case seeks to raise the quality of democratic discourse in the contemporary United States by making access to both sides of contemporary political debates easy and attractive. It brings together in one place underlying liberal positions on issues as disparate as market regulation and the war in Afghanistan, and sets them alongside their conservative and libertarian alternatives. Making the Progressive Case has been written as a living book, one combining new and old methods of reaching its audience. The ‘old’ is a high-quality text organized in an accessible format and written in an easy reading style.  The ‘new’ is the linking of this text to this regularly-updated website where the immediate relevance of the general arguments will be consistently re-established.  The book and website together constitute a genuine “one stop shop” for busy progressives keen to do battle with a revitalized American conservatism.
